Bhubaneswar: In response to the appeals from Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Medical Students seeking an increase in their stipends, and recognizing the significant contributions they make in their respective fields, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik has granted approval for the augmentation of stipend amounts for these students. Following this improvement the D.Pharma students will receive Rs.500, ANM students Rs.2000, B.Sc (Nursing) students Rs.5000 and those pursuing M. Phil in Clinical Psychology and M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work will get Rs.10, 000 each as stipend during their internship.
Prior to the hike, D. Pharma, ANM, and BSc(N) students were receiving monthly stipends of Rs 250, Rs 1000, and Rs 2500, respectively. In contrast, M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work students were getting Rs 7000.
The Chief Minister expects that this stipend increase will motivate students to provide enhanced services to the public, thereby strengthening healthcare in Odisha. This expectation was expressed during the recent visit of 5T Chairman Sri VK Pandian to MKCG Medical College, where students had requested the stipend enhancement.
It is noteworthy that the Government of Odisha, through the Health & Family Welfare Department, oversees various degree and diploma courses such as B.Sc. in Nursing, Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery (ANM), Diploma in Pharmacy, M.Phil in Clinical Psychology, and M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work in government institutions. The government extends stipends to students pursuing these courses throughout their education, during which they also contribute clinical services at healthcare institutions.
