Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal(ISBT) to be launched on January 1, 2024

Bhubaneswar: Scheduled to kick off its operations on January 1, 2024, the much-awaited Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) is poised for inauguration by Odisha’s Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, marking a significant moment in the New Year festivities. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), overseeing the project’s implementation, disclosed this information.

With construction now wrapped up, the final touches involving interior enhancements and beautification are on track for completion within the coming month. The traffic flow to the terminal is strategically organized, directing buses from Cuttack to execute a u-turn at Khandagiri Square, while those destined for Khordha will follow suit at Fire Station Square.

Standing as the largest bus stand in the state, the Baramunda ISBT has been crafted on an expansive 11-acre parcel, requiring an investment of Rs 209.30 crore. The terminal is equipped with modern conveniences, including a food court, excavator, elevator, multi-storied car parking, WiFi connectivity, and designated points for passenger pickup and drop-off. Its design aims to accommodate approximately 2000 buses on a daily basis.

An eco-friendly attribute of the terminal is its exclusive reliance on solar power for all operational needs. Operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the terminal has designated two agencies—one responsible for operational aspects and maintenance, and the other tasked with revenue collection. The initial contractual period for both agencies spans five years.
